Australian-Sri Lankan baritone Kiran Rajasingam has established himself as a highly sought after and versatile artist, captivating audiences on stages around Australia and internationally. With a career spanning opera, music theatre, oratorio and concert, Kiran has been described as a rising star lauded for his “rich, velvety voice” and “impressive emotional impact” (Classic Melbourne).

Kiran performs regularly with the Opera Australia and state opera company Victorian Opera. Principal credits with Opera Australia include Councilman in Mizzy Mazzoli’s Breaking the Waves and Yamadori in Madama Butterfly at the Sydney Opera House. With Victorian Opera, Kiran’s engagements have included Herod (The Play of Herod), Station Master (Eucalyptus), Mr Waa (Parrwang Lifts the Sky), The King (Cendrillon), Ein Cappadocier (Salome), Mr Mayor (The Pied Piper) and Diener (Capriccio) under the baton of Simone Young. Kiran has a keen interest in new music, having originated roles in new operatic works by Deborah Cheetham Fraillon, Richard Mills, Gordon Kerry and Joseph Twist. 

In 2025, Kiran will make several role and company debuts including Tom in the Australian premiere of Matt Boehler and Miriam Gordon-Stewart’s opera Fat Pig at fortyfivedownstairs, Vodník in Rusalka for Boroondara Opera in The Park and will cover Fritz Kothner and Herman Ortel in Wagner’s Die Meistersinger for Nürnberg for Melbourne Opera. Kiran will also return to Victorian Opera’s critically acclaimed production of Sweeney Todd for an international season at Dubai Opera.

Kiran is an experienced chorister, having performed numerous chorus roles including Tosca, La Traviata, Il Trovatore, Lohengrin, Mefistofele, Aida and Ernani for Opera Australia and La Rondine, La Cenerentola, Parsifal, Il Barbiere di Siviglia, La Sonnambula, William Tell, I Capuleti e i Montecchi and Cunning Little Vixen for Victorian Opera.

A passionate recitalist with a special interest in lesser-known gems, Kiran has performed recitals and concerts around Australia. In 2023, Kiran was awarded first place in the 41st National Liederfest, Australia’s foremost Lieder competition. On the concert platform, Kiran has sung baritone and bass solos in Vaughan Williams’ Fantasia on Christmas Carols, Charles Stanford’s Songs of the Sea, Haydn’s Missa Sancti Nicolai, Mozart’s Coronation Mass and Handel’s Messiah. 

Kiran is a graduate of the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music. During his studies, Kiran was awarded several prizes and scholarships for excellence in music, including the Murray Ormond Vagg Scholarship, the Nellie Melba Prize, the Florence Bradford Scholarship, the Lady Turner Exhibition in Music, the Lady Turner Prize and the Muriel Cheek Memorial Scholarship.

Kiran is under the tutelage of Carrie Barr.
